Enter what you hold today. Zakat is due at 2.5% on wealth held for one lunar year above the Nisab threshold.
How Zakat is calculated
Zakat is calculated at 2.5% of your net Zakat-able wealth, provided that wealth has stayed above the Nisab threshold for one full lunar (Hijri) year. Zakat-able wealth typically includes cash, bank savings, gold, silver, business stock and investments — but not your home, car or personal-use items.
What is Nisab?
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a person must have before Zakat becomes obligatory. It's traditionally set at the value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver — most scholars recommend using the silver value, as it results in a lower threshold and includes more people in giving Zakat.
- Do I subtract my debts before calculating Zakat?
- Yes — short-term debts due are generally deducted from your total assets before applying the 2.5% rate.
- Is Zakat due on my salary?
- Zakat is due on wealth you retain and hold for a lunar year, not on income as it's earned. Money saved from your salary becomes Zakat-able once it's held past your Zakat anniversary.
